Yuma AZ-- Feb.14th to 25th

Feb. 14th (Happy Valentine's)

68 Deg.F. a bit windy and cooler. We drove over to LosQintos Oasis RV Resort to say good bye to the Howells and Regans. They leave tomorrow for Indio, CA. We had a burger at their resort for lunch. Ralph and I drove out to the Quechan Casino-had their buffet dinner and played some slots. Fun and came home with a few dollars to the good.

Feb. 15th

Before playing shuffleboard we had a western omlette at the resort (breakfast $3.50 on Wednesdays).
We toured the Yuma Territorial Prison Museum-very interesting. Author Stephen Law signed his book "Yuma Gold" for me. In the evening we went to Karaoke Super Star in the resort ballroom. Most of the 20 contestants were very good.

Feb.16th

Cloudy and raining overnight but cleared off in the am. We drove out to Martha's Garden for a late lunch and a delicious date shake. There are 8,000 date palm trees producing high quality Medjool dates. Because of the year round warm temperatures, the Yuma area can grow acres upon acres of crops--lettuce,broccoli,cauliflower,etc.[approx. five a year].

Feb. 17th

Ralph went to shuffleboard while I did some cleaning. Warmer today at 75 Deg. F. We enjoyed the Murder Mystery Dinner (5:30 to 9:30) in the ballroom. Good food, good mystery and alot of fun.

Feb.18th

The burger bash 12 to 3 pm. was a good time again. Our neighbours George & Grace Harris (Edmonton) and Ron & Joyce Carlson (Med. Hat) invited along their friends Duke and Donna Skerry. We knew Duke (Murray Harbour, P.E.I.) over 40 years ago. Small world!!!
Ralph and I went to the concert in the ballroom-- comedian Brad Zinn and the Arizona Trio. They were very good folk and ballad singers.

Feb.19th

We went to the Yuma Market and bumped into Ray and Jo-anne. Duke and Donna invited us out to Pilot Knob RV resort for a happy hour. We had supper at Cracker Barrel on the way home.

Feb.20th

We golfed at the Westwinds at 8 AM. Afterwards we had breakfast and shopped at Walmart.
It is Western Week Hoedown @ the Palms. Three horseback riders came down our street today. Gunfights and skits are happening through out the week.We had our neighbours over for happy hour.

Feb. 21st

Sunny near 80 Deg. F. I did 4 loads of laundry. Duke and Donna stopped by for a visit. Ralph and I went to Cocopah Casino for supper and a couple of hours of fun on the slots. Ralph made $10.00 and I played all evening on twenty dollars.

Feb. 22nd

Blueberry pancakes and sausage for breakfast at the Resort. We went swimming on a very hot afternoon (90 Deg.F). The contestants on Karaoke Super Star did not seem as good as last week.

Feb. 23rd

Very hot 85 Deg. F. We had a relaxing day before going to the Saddles of Joy Benefit dinner at the Resort. The SOJ is a non profit, therapeutic riding facility in Yuma for special needs children. There was a dinner, dance, raffles and silent auction. It was sold out and very worthwhile.

Feb. 24th

I did some cleaning and downloading of pictures to the computer while Ralph went to shuffleboard. We went for a bike ride around the resort. We picked up some groceries at Fry's.
83 Deg. F. The sun screen has been well worth the money. Our neighbours had us over for happy hour before we went to the Mel Tillis concert. Mel is 79 years old, very personable and
still a great country western singer. He autographed our CD and I got a photo with him.

Feb. 25th

We went to the burger bash with our neighbours. Beautiful day in the mid 80's. The DeGuello gunslingers performed. The western band The Ridge Riders played on stage around the pool.
Pete Byam sang in the ballroom where you could dance. We watched curling on Ron and Joyce's outside flat screen TV later on.

Yuma,AZ Jan.31st to Feb.13th

Jan.31st

The Yuma Palms RV Resort is 4 years old. It has large RV sites with beautiful amenities and lots of activities. We talked to them in the Palms office and we were able to book in for a month but into a different site. We went to Walmart for groceries and had a swim in the pool after lunch.

Feb. 1st

We packed up and moved RV sites to 219--we will be here until March 2nd. We went to the blueberry pancake and sausage breakfast at the Resort. Delicious! Afterwards we played shuffleboard from 10 am to noon. There are 14 shuffleboard courts(56 people). It is fun and a good way to meet people. In the afternoon we had Dave's RV Wax and Wash clean and wax our 5th wheel and truck (for $110.00 it was well worth it). I cleaned the windows and inside the 5th wheel while they did the outside. In the evening the Karaoke Super Stars was very good with 17 contestants. We had a very busy day.

Feb. 2nd

Warm 75 Deg.F. Our friends the Howells,Regans,Odermatts and Overmanns arrived yeaterday in Yuma. They are all staying at Los Quintos Oasis RV Resort. They could not get into The Palms. The Overmanns picked us up in the afternoon to go to the Yuma Market. In the evening we went over to Los Quintos to visit everyone.

Feb. 3rd

We played shuffleboard and then bicycled around the resort. I read and relaxed in the warm afternoon sun. Ralph and I went out for supper.

Feb. 4th

We invited the Regans,Overmanns and Howells (Odermatts could not come) over for the Resort's burger bash 12-3pm. It cost $3.50 for a hamburger, chips and all the keg beer you can drink -- listen and dance to a band around the pools on a sunny 74 Deg.F day. Our neighbours George and Grace invited us over before supper for a visit. The Overmanns joined us for a variety show in the Resort in the evening.

Feb. 5th

We went to the Yuma Market and bought a black sun screen for our awning. We get full sun most of the day. It gets quite hot. The Regans invited us over to Los Quintos for a Super Bowl party and supper. Good food, good friends and a good times!!

Feb. 6th

The Howells picked us up to go to Los Algodones,Mexico at 9 am. While Gary was having his dental work done (2 root canals and a filling--much cheaper in Mexico), Karen,Ralph and I shopped around, bought some trinkets and had tasty shrimp tacos. It took us 45 minutes to get through the border (not as bad as some days).

Feb. 7th

We played 9 holes of golf with the Odermatts. It was a bit cool and windy but Ralph had a great game. We had a good breakfast afterwards. Bob and Marilyn leave tomorrow to drive back home to Saskatchewan. Bruce and Linda came over for a visit before supper. We went to the Bernie and Red concert after supper.

Feb. 8th

We went to the Resort's breakfast before shuffleboard. We went shopping with the Overmanns--stopped for wings/beer and had a later dinner at a Italian Resturant in Old Downtown Yuma. A good day!!

Feb. 9th

Cleaned and did laundry on a hot 80 Deg.F. day. The Overmanns invited us over for an appetizer supper along with the Regans,Howells and Ray and Jo-Anne Trews (Saskatchewan). Yummy!!The Overmanns leave for Palm Springs tomorrow.

Fe. 10th

We went grocery shopping at the new Fry's store after shuffleboard. We invited the Trews,Howells and Regans(Regans not able to come)for a fajitas supper and drinks. Very hot day 84 Deg.F. The sun screen for the awning gives us great shade.

Feb. 11th

The Regans and the Howells came for the Resort's burger bash. Ray and Jo-Anne were golfing.
Another hot day in the low 80's but it got windy and cooler after 4 pm. The Regans picked us up for the Yuma Silver Spurs Rodeo in the evening. Good but definitely not the Calgary Stampede.

Feb. 12th

We picked the Howells and Regans up to go to Los Algodones,Mexico at 9:30am. Karen and the Regans were picking up their new glasses---cheaper in Mexico. It was a fun day of shopping, bartering, pina coladas, margaritas, beer, music and lunch. The tortilla soup and shrimp tacos were excellent. I bought kahlua ($8.50) and Marlboro cigarettes (cheaper). Sunday is the best day to go into this border town. There was no long line-ups to cross back into the USA.
Ray and J0-Anne invited us all for pizza and cake for Ray's 65th birthday afterwards.

Feb. 13th

Ralph played shuffleboard this morning . I was lazy and had a relaxing morning and afternoon.
I finally got to talk to Mom on the phone. She arrived home to P.E.I. on Saturday after two months in Ottawa. I did the journal and then the blog with Ralph. Nice to have a quiet day in the sunshine.
